Thrift shopping is a great way to find something unexpected, something you never imagined you'd discover. Just the other weekend I made a stop at the Blue Elephant RVA to say hello to my friend Jessica, and I found this beautiful Italian glass bottle. The color is so vibrant, it almost glows, in a cool sort of way. I added this piece to the small collection of turquoise-blue bunch I have been displaying on my fireplace.
The Portrait of a woman is a find I took a long time to search for. I was looking for a portrait, something of a certain art style and of course something I could afford. After I saw this painting (at TheEAShop) I fell in love with its style, composition, and the blue + red that the artist used so masterfully to create such powerful piece. It was my first real-deal artwork purchase. It is oil on canvas from around 1950s - 1960s. I adore the colors and how well they work together!

Friday Art: Painting Du Jour: Lemons

Sometimes I end up keeping artwork that I intentionally create as a gift for a friend, like Two Pairs of Pears I did for a friend of mine. I feel ashamed, I admit. This drawing of Lemons was the replacement. You see, the pears were long gone by the time of the birthday. I was in a rush and the only fruit we had at home were lemons. Hence the drawing.

Painting Du Jour: Two Pairs of Pears
Sometimes things just happen. I had four pears were sitting on the kitchen counter. The next day this framed piece went up on the wall. I wanted to keep it simple, bright and modern, almost like a poster, an illustration of some sorts. Pastels on paper.

Best In Show II
Last Sunday I attended Spring Bada-Bing Craft Show organized by the Richmond Craft Mafia. It was hosted at Plant Zero and was a well-organized event, with thoughtfully selected local designers and craftsmen.
These crocheted dolls are absolutely charming. I especially love The Fox

When I saw this bag, it reminded me of my frined Jessica of Blue Elephant who rides her cool red scooter everywhere.

Great selection of totes featuring vintage dress patterns dating from 1930s to 1970s. Very unique and retro. Made by Hilary Martin of Haute Hilary: (HauteHilary@aol.com)
Would you like to have your eggs sunny side up? And would you like to wear them as your earrings? Then the Inedible Jewellry shop is right for you. Made by sisters Jessica and Susan Partain, the selection varies from doughnuts and cupcakes to slices of carrot cake and watermelon. Very cool and with a great sence of humor!

Poster Perfect
I never considered myself a poster person. Never hung one at home. Always thought of myself as authentic-painting-type-of-girl. Well, this very afternoon I have been on an unexpected hunt for a perfect... poster. You see, I recently started this new job and my very own office has empty walls that require some personalization. A painting, I thought, would be too personal. A poster could be cool. An over-sized one, with bold colors. Something I could look at at any point of my work day and feel better, feel confident and inspired. Something vintage, French perhaps, but not at all suggestive. Something Vogue, but not girly. Something that would not imply any political inclination. Something that would say: she is elegant and tasteful, smart and resourceful, professional and confident, authoritative and tough, but with a great sense of humor, of course. Something perfect...
