A Trip To Terrain

It's been a while since I wanted to share these photos with you. Coming back from Philadelphia home in late March of this year, we made a stop at one of my favorite places (!) - Terrain. Located on a former farmland about an hour south of the city, this place is truly magic. If you have never been, take my word for it, especially if you are, like me, a huge fan of Anthropologie (both are part of Urban Outfitters Inc.) They carry everything from tools and furniture for your garden to garden-inspired housewares, cookbooks + teas + honey, clothing + accessories, as well as tons of amazing soaps and body lotions. I have yet to dine at their restaurant adjacent to the shop. I hear the food is amazing and most of the produce comes from their own garden and nearby farms. The restaurant is particularly famous for throwing big dinner parties and special events. Some day...

Below you will find the photos of many beautiful things that caught my eye. Enjoy!

Friday Arts & Crafts: In The Garden

I have been working in my garden a lot lately. It makes me very happy to see the plants grow! These beautiful illustrations are very appropriate for this time of the year and reflect my gardening dalliances.

Wednesday Decor: Resilient House Plants

Do you have a green thumb? If not, read on. When it comes to growing them at home, I must admit, my plants do not survive for a very long time. I usually blame it on the poor daylight coming through the windows, or on too much sun, or on the radiators being too hot. Whatever the real reason is, somehow I manage to kill most of my house plants.

Well, just in time for the upcoming spring, when everyone will begin their spring-cleaning, old-junk-tossing and redecorating, West Elm is giving people like you and me a chance to have a green thumb by offering these low-maintenance Succulents & Cacti. Shipping in sets of 3 randomly selected plants, they can be displayed not only in traditional pots, but also in wall planters, terrariums, and hanging glass bubbles:

Looking at all of these resilient plants inside the beautiful glass planters gives me hope. I am ready to take another chance! How about you?

Hot Summer Planter

My friend CB just recently shared this photo of an old cast iron stove she found in her grandmother's house in Northern Germany. Being one of the most creative persons I know, she always surprises me with brilliant ideas. This time, instead of getting rid of the old dysfunctional stove, she refinished it and turned it into a planter. Now, how clever is that?
I love the contrast: an industrial heavy metal hot item that grows a delicate flower arrangement. And the best part is - it can be used both inside the house or outside in the garden. Truly, one of a kind hot summer planter!

Simple Pleasures

My next door neighbors have a big rose bush. The other day they generously offered to feel free and cut some flowers for the house. I could not resist the offer!
And here they are, so simple and so powerful. Their magic aroma lingers across the room...

Now that I have my own little garden, I understand the joy of gardening. This spring I have discovered Allium flowers planted by a previous owner. Their long stems crowned by a big round ball of tiny purple flowers make a beautiful simple statement in a tall glass vase.

Waiting for my own plants to grow from seeds, I am anxious to see the results. It does take a lot of time and patience, but the reward is truly priceless.
