It is Monday and I am super-excited to start this new week with a guest post by Suzonne Stirling of Urban Comfort. Hello readers of navyblueshoe! I was so flattered when invited to share a post here. So thank you to Olga for having me today!

I'm a huge fan of neutrals, and done right, I don't think they ever have to be boring. Take white, for instance. It's the perfect backdrop for summer, but it's hardly one-dimensional. Artfully layered, it takes on different personalities, from bright and fresh to subtle and moody. The key is to mix textures and tones, and I always like to throw in some elements from nature, natural foliage or wood, for balance. Fresh, simple, and just right for the season.

Monday Style: Coral Summer

Happy Monday! The beginning of June is getting us closer to the official summertime. This time of the year makes me want to keep it simple: wear a beautiful airy dress + a little bit of color on my lips (built-in SPF 15 is a plus!) + a pretty headband to add some old-world glamour (and keep the hair away from my face).

Friday Arts & Crafts: Vermilion

I am a big fan of Vermilion color, especially with the upcoming spring season. I recently bought Vermilion ink from Winsor & Newton, and I love the illustration on its packaging. I added this picture of a cardinal I took yesterday, right outside of our house. These birds are simply beautiful.

Brand-New Week: Home-Made Ribbons

This was a total experiment. I got this yellow raw silk awhile ago from a friend of mine. Not thrilled about the color, I decided I dip dye it using Indigo Blue color. It ended up transforming into this beautiful sea-foam green, almost turquoise color. Happy with the result, I decided to tear it into strips and use the ribbons to give my gifts a home-made touch.

I selected Liquitex Bright Aqua Green to hand-paint a memo on the package.

Fun Summer Style

TREAT FOR YOUR FEET: I love the dark teal color of the Muse Nail Varnish from Illamasqua. The color is very pure, modern and unique, and it changes depending on the lighting. It looks absolutely beautiful on my toes with its high gloss finish. (Who would have thought the Teal is going to be called Modern again?)
FUN SHOES: Tack Room Heels will go along well with the funky teal on my toes.
BAGS DO NOT GET ANY CUTER: than the Sett & Reset Tote. All of the essentials will easily fit in this spacious bag. The pretty plaid pattern of the silk trimmed in leather is so much fun!

NBS: Fall 2011 Color Forcast

I have been saying it for years now: Navy is the new Black. I've said it with an eyeliner and a nail polish. I've wrapped my neck with a long navy-blue scarf that I got as a gift from Paris, even in a 90-degrees weather. I've stayed true to it with my wardrobe and those favorite Fiorentini+Baker boots you see me wearing all the time. It even effected the name of my blog!
There is no question: navy-blue is IN. These beautiful Midnight Meeting Oxfords below are a great number from the Anthropologie's fall collection.
I could not resist including this adorable In-The-Deep Bag. Best part is - it is on sale now and the price is right. And so is the color.

Spring Polish

With spring's arrival, it's time to get polished, shake off the winter's blues and put on a happy hue. The brights of the season are just so energizing! And so many colors to choose from!

I pick a bright orange for my toes: Y'all Come Back Ya Hear? by OPI. It is not too yellow, not too peachy. It has a perfect balance of everything that make your nails look flattering and modern.

For my fingernails I choose a neutral gray: Waking Up In Vegas by Deborah Lippmann. Am still in love with it, even though I've had it since last spring. I get so many compliments on it, people always ask me where I bought it.

If you are a perfectionist, and want impeccable manicure & pedicure that last longer, I recommend to always do the following:

• use a base coat

• apply two coats of lacquer

• use a top coat
  

• be very patient with drying

Neutral Territory

Over the past few years I have managed to purchase tons of shirts, pants and jackets in various horizontal or vertical stripes and plaid. I love to combine them, but try to manage my looks without overdoing it. Well, sometimes I do overdo it (he-he). Recently I found myself leaning towards neutral accessories. I am thrilled to admit they help to tie it all together, especially when I have one or two (or three!) bold patterns going on at the same time. Here are some of my picks:
